“My Delightful Adventure with Spicy Stir-Fried Webfoot Octopus”

Buljukkumi - Spicy Webfoot Octopus DishThis spicy dish is made by stir-frying webfoot octopus. Its Korean name, “Buljukkumi,” has the prefix “bul-” to denote fire. Indeed, it is an extra spicy dish that numbs one’s mouth. Thankfully, one has a choice of the degree of heat when ordering. Whatever the heat level is, it goes well with the sweet notes and the smoky aroma from the stir-frying process. When coupled with the chewy texture of the webfoot octopus, it creates a culinary experience that one cannot simply stop. Cabbage and other vegetables are sometimes added to the dish, while in other instances, webfoot octopus is stir-fried by itself and then mixed with vegetables to create a bibimbap. Flying fish roe, julienne radish fresh salad, bean sprouts, and lettuce also go well with the bibimbap.
